Last Summer Fling at Sand Harbor

Yes, sad, but true. Last week was the last Wednesday of the summer, our last full day at the lake. We had a wonderful day. We stayed late, but didn't make it as early as we had hoped. We had a very interesting morning, which really messed up my schedule.

Cheyanne had a Dr. appointment that morning for her annual checkup. That when great. She got two shots and is as healthy as can be. After leaving the Dr. we stopped at Subway to get sandwiches for lunch. I came out of Subway to put the subs in the cooler, walked around the back of the truck to find the tail gate open and my cooler FULL of yummy food, GONE!! Yes, gone. I asked the kids if they were sure they got the tailgate closed tight. Chey promised she had slammed and pulled on it before we left the house. Broc said he walked around the back of the truck at the Dr. and it was closed then. My stroller and chair and boogie boards were all still there. At first I thought it had fallen out somewhere along the way, then realized that I probably would have heard it fall. Regardless we back tracked to the DR. to make sure. There was no cooler anywhere on the road. After calling friends to make sure it hadn't fallen on our way to the DR. our conclusion was it was stolen, either at the Dr. or at Subway. It think it was at the Dr. because all the kids were in the car with the windows open at Subway, and I was right there watching them hanging out of the windows. The kids were devastated, and so upset we wouldn't have any food to eat at the lake. I assured them we could replace the food and the cooler. It turned out to be a very good lesson opportunity. We talked about people being dishonest and stealing things, keeping your purse on your shoulder at all times, not dropped in the shopping cart, always locking doors and keeping an eye open for something peculiar. we stopped at Wal-Mart and replaced the cooler and food then headed to the lake. I was just thankful it was just the cooler and not my nice stroller. Thomas thinks someone thought it must have had alcohol in it. If that is the case, they were very disappointed with all the fruit, veggies, fruit snacks, granola bars, Capri Suns and baby snacks. I told the kids that hopefully whoever took it was desperate to feed his family. That hopefully they needed the food much worse than we did. They seemed to accept that, and felt better after we talked it through.

Off to the lake. We had a great day. We stayed until very late and enjoyed all our yummy food. The wind picked up in the early afternoon so most of the touristy people left. That's the time we love. The waves pick up and the kids love it. Nait was a little extra fussy because he was a bit cold and couldn't sleep good in the wind. We all had a great time, and they are already talking about next summer and the lake!! Hopefully we will be able to get up there a few evenings in September. We usually have the whole beach to ourselves. And we love it when Thomas can join us too!!
